Cyclist Struck, Killed By Truck In Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) -- A cyclist was struck and killed by a truck in Porter Square Wednesday morning.

Police said the fatal collision happened around 8:08 a.m. Wednesday in front of the Porter Square Dunkin Donuts.

The cyclist, identified as 60-year-old Bernard Lavins of Lexington, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of truck stayed at the scene, police said.

Both ends of Massachusetts Avenue were blocked off near Porter Square after the crash.

Cambridge Public Schools said a small number of students witnessed the fatal crash.

Grief counselors were put in place at schools the students attend.

The cause of the crash was not yet known. The Middlesex District Attorney's office is investigating.
