Crews Working To Free Stranded Dolphins Off Provincetown

PROVINCETOWN (CBS/AP) – Rescue crews are working to save four of five dolphins that have stranded themselves off of Provincetown.

The dolphins were discovered beached in shallow water on Thursday morning.

One of the five dolphins did not survive the stranding. Michael Booth, a spokesman for the International Fund for Animal Welfare, says his team is preparing to release the other four surviving dolphins into deeper water.

The dolphins were found on the flats off the intersection of Snail Road and Route 6A near the Harbor Hotel.

Booth says the team ran multiple tests on the surviving dolphins and says they are healthy, but some are underweight.

He says because of the unique landscape and tidal changes the area is a hotspot for marine strandings. Every year his team responds to quite a number of dolphin strandings in the area.
