Crews Work To Upright Train After Gardner Derailment

GARDNER (CBS) — Crews worked Thursday to right the train cars that derailed Wednesday afternoon.

By midday, three of the four cars had been turned upright. The fourth car remained on its side.

The streets were closed as the scene continued to be cleared.

The four cars were carrying new vehicles and were part of an 80 car train on the way to Worcester.

Charles Rennick, a spokesperson for Providence and Worcester Railroad Company said the cause of the derailment remains under investigation. A crew responsible for up-righting and re-railing the cars arrived at the scene late Wednesday night.

No one was injured in the wreck.

There's no word on just how much the derailment will cost the company.
