WAKEFIELD (CBS) -- Police are investigating the death of a husband and wife at a Wakefield apartment complex in what authorities are calling a murder-suicide.

Police say 42-year-old Daniel Burns stabbed his wife, Christina Giordando, 45, to death shortly before 11 a.m. on Sunday, then jumped out of the 9th floor apartment.

Burns was staying with relatives at the apartment. The couple was separated but officials said they were trying to reconcile. Officials say Giordando was able to speak to police before succumbing to her injuries.

"This is a very sad ending to a tragic case of domestic violence," District Attorney Marian Ryan said.

According to police, Burns had several restraining orders against him, but none from Giordando. The couple had been married for two years.
