Copper Thieves Strike Empty Attleboro Properties

ATTLEBORO (CBS) - Vacant properties that are up for sale are being targeted.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Kim Tunnicliffe reports

Thieves are breaking in during the day and ripping out the copper piping. Empty houses in Attleboro have recently experienced a surge in copper theft.

Keller Williams Plainville realtor Lisa Courtney, had one of her for-sale houses broken into recently. She said the thieves caused a lot of damage and didn't get away with much.

"They're not getting rich off this. But the amount of devastation they're causing to the homeowners is just horrible. Between loss of money, the repair time, and the loss of marketing, because you can't show the property like that," said Courtney.

Attleboro Police will soon meet with local realtors to brainstorm ways to cut down on this crime.
