Man Accused Of Shooting State Trooper In Springfield Held Without Bail

SPRINGFIELD (CBS) – A man accused of shooting a State Police trooper on New Year's Eve in Springfield is being held without bail.

Police said 31-year-old Christopher Gardner was in a gunfight with another man when he shot at the trooper and a Springfield Police officer.

The 26-year-old trooper suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. The shooting set off a manhunt and Gardner was arrested a short time later.

The trooper was taken to the hospital and released on New Year's Day.
