7-Year-Old Girl Struck By Car While Riding Bicycle In Mashpee

MASHPEE (CBS) - A seven year old girl suffered life threatening injuries when she was struck by a car while crossing a road on her bicycle in Mashpee.

Police say the girl was struck at the intersection of Route 130 and Juniper Road Wednesday afternoon. The vehicle, traveling eastbound, struck the girl while she was attempting to cross Route 130.

The girl was flown by medical helicopter to Mass. General Hospital where she is being treated for life threatening injuries.

The driver of the car was also transported to the hospital with what appeared to be stress related issues due to the accident, police say.

Route 130 will be shut down for several hours between South Sandwich Road and Great Neck Road North.

The accident remains under investigation by members of the Mashpee Police Department and the Cape Cod Regional Crash Reconstruction Team.
