Death Of 18-Month-Old Child Investigated In Danvers

DANVERS (CBS) - The death of an 18-month-old child is being investigated in Danvers.

The Essex County District Attorney's office says the child was transported from a home on Fellows Street and was pronounced dead at Beverly Hospital Tuesday evening.

A babysitter had been looking after the child until the father came to pick them up around 5 p.m. The child, who had been napping in a crib, was found unresponsive by the babysitter at that time.

An autopsy is expected to be performed on Wednesday. The DA says the death appears to be medical but they will not be sure until they receive the autopsy results.

The Department of Children and Families has received a report on the incident and are also investigating what they call a "tragic situation."
