Man Killed In Chelsea Hit-And-Run Crash Identified

CHELSEA (CBS) -- Chelsea Police and Mass. State Police are investigating after a Chelsea man was killed in a hit-and-run accident Saturday night.

Police said the victim, 25-year-old Marco Cruz, was struck around 10:15 p.m. Saturday on Washington Avenue. He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he died of his injuries Sunday morning.

Chelsea residents on Washington Avenue are still shaken up by the incident.

"I saw the guy lying by the car. So I started dialing 911," neighbor Derrick Muwina said. Police say the driver sped away without stopping leaving Cruz bleeding on the street.

"I heard he went into the air and flipped and landed on the street. It was just a crazy scene," one neighbor said. An off-duty officer nearby immediately responded to the cries for help.

Chelsea Police chief Brian Kyes posted a surveillance image of the suspect's car to his Twitter account late Saturday night. The car is believed to be a 2007-2009 Toyota Camry SE, silver or light gray in color. The car also had fog lights and a moon roof. The vehicle is expected to have a broken driver's side headlight and fog light.

Police said in a release Sunday morning that they recovered evidence from the scene, and are still searching for that vehicle. They are asking the public to contact them with any information.
