Chatham Man Arrested After Reported Hostage Situation

CHATHAM (CBS) -- Police charged a Chatham man with kidnapping and assault on a police officer after a hostage situation was reported early Sunday morning.

Authorities received a 911 call at 4:43 a.m. saying that an armed man was holding two men and a woman hostage in his downtown Chatham apartment, according to police. Police said the two men were told to leave the apartment by the armed man and called 911.

A SWAT Team responded to the scene at 11 Chatham Bars Ave. and the woman was also able to make it out of the apartment unharmed, Chatham police said. The SWAT Team entered the apartment, where Christian Joseph Sica, 28, became combative and was "tased," according to police.

A fully loaded .45 caliber firearm was recovered from the apartment, police said.

Sica is charged with kidnapping, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault on a police officer, possession of a firearm and assault with a dangerous weapon. The incident remains under investigation.
