Water Main Bursts In Charlestown

CHARLESTOWN (CBS) -- A water main break caused a two-foot sinkhole to open up and shut down several roads Tuesday morning.

The main burst near the intersection of Rutherford Avenue and Arrow Street.

Water rushed from the scene, shutting down Route 99 briefly.

Crews had to shut down water to residents on Washington Street, but water had been restored by 6 a.m. Tuesday.

One building on Arrow Street remained without water as crews isolated a valve.

Crews worked through the day to remove the damaged pipe and are expected to work through the night back-filling the street and cleaning the area.
