Woman Sexually Assaulted Along Charles River In Newton

NEWTON (CBS) – Massachusetts State Police say a woman was sexually assaulted along the Charles River in Newton last month.

She was attacked on a path between Bridge Street and the Blue Heron Bridge on Monday, September 21 around 5:30 p.m.

The 44-year-old woman was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police arrested 32-year-old Leonel Garcia of Waltham. He's charged with rape assault, larceny and malicious destruction of property.

It's not clear yet why news of the attack wasn't made public until now.

More information is expected later Thursday, a State Police spokesman told WBZ-TV.
