Chara To Miss Games For Bruins While Representing Slovakia In Olympics

BOSTON (CBS) - When the 2014 Winter Olympics get underway, you may notice the Slovakian flag flying higher than the others.

That's because Zdeno Chara will be carrying his countries flag during the opening ceremonies, causing the Bruins captain to miss at least one game with his NHL team, Boston head coach Claude Julien confirmed on Thursday.

The opening ceremony is set to take place on Friday, February 7, one day before the NHL's two-week Olympic break. The Bruins play in St. Louis on Thursday, February 6 and host the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, February 8, and Chara likely won't be around for either.

Chara, who was named captain of the Slovakian team, is one of five Bruins players that will represent their countries in Sochi games:  Centers David Krecji (Czech Republic) and Patrice Bergeron (Canada), goaltender Tuukka Rask (Finland), forward Loui Eriksson (Sweden).
