Changes Are Coming To Boston's Iconic Freedom Trail
BOSTON (CBS) -- The iconic Freedom Trail is getting some much needed upgrades in the coming years.
Boston's Mayor Marty Walsh unveiled a 2-year renovation plan to the 2.5-mile trail that stretches through the heart of the city. The upgrades include replacing damaged sections of sidewalk and adding 30 pedestrian ramps to accommodate people with disabilities.
In 2014, the city replaced nearly 2,000 feet of the painted sections of the trail.
"With over four million people enjoying the Freedom Trail and our great city's historic sites annually, the City of Boston's improvement efforts are commendable," Freedom Trail Foundation Executive Director Suzanne Taylor said in a public statement.
The project is estimated to cost $700,000.
