Marcus Smart Shows Off House He Bought For His Mother

BOSTON (CBS) -- Following a rough childhood, Marcus Smart made a promise to his mother.

If he fulfilled his dream and made it to the NBA, he would buy the woman who raised him a brand new home. His dream came true when the Boston Celtics selected Smart sixth overall in July, so Smart fulfilled that promise to his mother, Camellia, by buying her a home just outside of Dallas.

"It's probably one of the biggest accomplishments as a young man, is to give your mom what she always wanted. And to take care of her, especially after she takes care of you all those years. And to make her happy. It's a blessing," Smart told reporters in Dallas, according to MassLive.com. "I thank God every day for the opportunity to be able to do something like that."

Smart hadn't seen the house until Boston's recent trip to Dallas, and though his mom won't move in until after Thanksgiving, he offered fans a view of his mother's new home Friday on Instagram:

The story is just another show of Smart's character. He is still just 20 years old and feeling his way through a new career, but he made sure his first big purchase fulfilled his promise to his mother. Smart has matured greatly over the years, and it was his mother, among others, who helped mold him into the man he was today.
