Smart Out Monday vs. 76ers With Achilles Injury
BOSTON (CBS) -- An Achilles strain will keep Marcus Smart out of Boston's Monday night tilt against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Celtics head coach Brad Stevens said Smart will not travel to Philadelphia for Monday's game and will instead stay back in Boston to rehab a left Achilles strain he suffered in Friday night's loss to the New York Knicks. Stevens said there is a chance Smart could play Wednesday night when the Celtics host the Orlando Magic at the TD Garden.
This is another bump in the road for the Celtics rookie, who missed 11 games after suffering a left ankle sprain and bone bruise on November 7.
The sixth overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft has played in 10 games this season, averaging 5.9 points per game on 33 percent shooting with 2.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.
Boston shooting guard Marcus Thornton will also miss Monday's game in Philadelphia after he suffered a strained left calf during Sunday's practice.
