Gorman: No Thanks On DeMarcus Cousins
BOSTON (CBS) -- Things are not going well for DeMarcus Cousins or the Kings, paving way for numerous trade rumors involving the Sacramento big man.
The team is just 2-7 and Cousins isn't getting along with head coach George Karl, cursing him out earlier in the week. But while he can be a bit of a headcase, there's no denying Cousins is among the more talented big men in the NBA, averaging 19 points and 10.9 rebounds over his six-year career.
Enter the Boston Celtics, who will be mentioned in just about every trade rumor involving a star player thanks to their vast collection of draft picks and young talent. This isn't the first time Cousins to Boston rumors have surfaced, but with a handful of first round picks in the next two years, the Celtics are in a great position to pull off a superstar swap this time around.
The question is, should they? Celtics play-by-play man Mike Gorman joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich on Friday, and while he said Cousins is a "great talent," he's a guy he'd stay away from due to that questionable attitude he would bring.
"When he's on the court he's probably one of the Top 10-15 players in the league," said Gorman. "We don't have that guy, maybe Cousins could be that guy. I just don't think you want to bring in the off-court attitude that cousins has into that locker room."
Gorman thinks if anyone could control a guy like Cousins, it would be Celtics head coach Brad Stevens. But with such a good locker room already, why risk it?
"I don't think he would ever lose control [of the locker room], but get to that point at all? Why bring in someone who could run that risk? I have nothing against Cousins; I don't know him but I know about his issues on the court with George Karl and coaches before that," he said. "I don't think it's worth bringing that kind of headache into what is a terrific locker room right now.
"It's a locker room that is really dedicated to the team rather than the individual. That could potentially change with a Cousins coming in," he said.
