Celtics Assign MarShon Brooks To Maine Red Claws

BOSTON (CBS) -  Buried on the Boston bench, MarShon Brooks may find some playing time a little further north.

The Boston Celtics assigned Brooks to the Maine Red Claws, their NBA Development League affiliate, on Wednesday.

Brooks has appeared in just nine games for the Celtics this season, averaging 3.2 points and 1.6 rebounds in 6.8 minutes per game. The third-year guard scored a season-high of eight points twice (December 8 at New York and November 16 at Minnesota) and recorded a season-high five rebounds against Indiana on December 22.

Brooks appeared in just three games in December, scoring 16 points in 20 minutes of playing time.

The Celtics acquired the 24-year-old guard out of Providence College in their summer blockbuster with the Brooklyn Nets. Selected 25th overall in the 2011 NBA Draft, Brooks started 47 games for the New Jersey Nets as a rookie, averaging 12.6 points over 47 games.
