Celtics @ 7: Playoffs Or High Draft Pick?

BOSTON (CBS) - Every weeknight on 98.5 The Sports Hub (when there isn't a Bruins or Celtics game), The Adam Jones Show dedicates the start of the 7 o'clock hour to all things Green in a segment called Celtics @ 7.

On Tuesday night, Adam Jones and Rich Keefe discussed where the Celtics are at this early point in the season, and the consensus is that both hosts have been encouraged by their play and like where the team is headed.

"The Celtics are in pretty good shape. They've started the season 3-3. A year ago they were 4-4 after eight games, so a lot can change over the course of the season. But the way they're playing this year, the pace they're playing at offensively -- stylistically I think it's a much more appealing brand of basketball," Jones said of the young C's. "There's been a lot of three-point shots and a lot of pushing the tempo. There's some young talented players you can wrap your head around."

Rich Keefe shares the same sentiment as Jones.

"I think you've got to be pretty happy with a 3-3 start. With basketball, it's not like football where you analyze each and every game in depth. But from where they started the season, they got a nice win against Brooklyn then they lose three straight games. Then you start wondering, 'Okay what kind of season is this gonna be?' They beat Indiana, then they go into Chicago without Marcus Smart and without Rajon Rondo on the second night of a back-to-back and get a win on the road. How many road wins did they even have last year? Those are two nice wins," Keefe said of the early slate of games.

Keefe added it's clear the mix of young players and veterans have bought into head coach Brad Stevens and have a lot of respect for the second-year NBA coach, which is important for a guy with no professional experience before taking the Celtics gig.

It's still early in the year, but with the Eastern Conference the way it is many believe the Celtics can compete for a playoff spot -- just one year after going 25-57.

This begs the question: should the team be aiming for the playoffs or a high draft pick?
