Carl Stevens Talks To The Candidates: Scott Lively, Independent Candidate For Governor
BOSTON (CBS) – In September 2013, a western Massachusetts reverend issued a statement saying, "After long contemplation and prayer, I have decided to run for governor. I will run as an independent."
This candidate is Scott Lively, who was raised in Shelburne Falls.
He described Massachusettsets as a "much better place" during his childhood.
"We had more of a Judeo-Christian census, as a society," Lively told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.
Some of the candidates running for governor are driven by personal ambition, and some by a desire to create jobs.
However, Dr. Lively's ambition comes from a separate place.
"When I was growing up here, in my teen years, I became an alcoholic when I was 12 and a drug addict when I was 14. I spent 16 years in bondage to drugs and alcohol," said Lively of his childhood,
"In 1986, I got down on my knees and surrendered myself to Jesus Christ and I was completely healed and delivered. My life ever since then has been working for the Lord Jesus Christ to advance his kingdom and his values."
Lively has identified himself as different from all the other candidates running for governor, but he says it is time that Massachusetts voters start looking at someone different.
"Things are never going to change in Massachusetts unless you stop doing the same thing over and over again: voting for the lesser of two evils. You finally have a genuinely conservative candidate that is not intimidated by the media. I stand on my principals and I'm urging people to trust God and vote your values," Lively said.
