Carl Stevens' Notebook: On The Road With AAA On A Cold Day

BOSTON (CBS) --- Tuesday's biting cold isn't just bad for people, it's also tough on cars.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Carl Stevens rode along with Jeff Waterman of AAA and responded to several dead battery calls.

"Anytime there's extreme weather, it gets pretty busy, but mostly dead batteries," Waterman said.

Yvette Sanchez's car battery died in Jamaica Plain.

"My problem is my car doesn't turn on," she told Waterman and Stevens.

Waterman had to replace Sanchez's battery.

He says one of the challenges in single digit temperatures is working quickly, but efficiently.

"Take your time, do it correctly, professionally and get back in your warm truck as fast as you can," Waterman said.

From a back parking lot in the Fenway neighborhood to a car that wouldn't start in Jamaica Plain, Waterman jumped the cars or replaced the battery so drivers and the car could warm up.

"About 99-percent are very happy to see me," he said.
