Car Collides With Amtrak Downeaster In Andover

ANDOVER (CBS) -- A train collided with an Andover woman's car Sunday, taking off the front of her car but leaving her uninjured.

Cora Harder said she drives through the intersection at Essex and Railroad Streets all the time. Today, though, she said she was halfway through the railway crossing before the gates came down and trapped her.

"I went through the first gate no problem," said Harder. "Then I saw the second gate going down."

After the Amtrak Downeaster hit her, the front of her SUV was completely destroyed, but she was fine.

"The train was coming so fast, it would have been in my visual range just one second before I could have done anything," said Harder.

There were no injuries on the train, which was heading to Boston.
