Car Becomes Engulfed In Flames On Route 6 In Yarmouth

YARMOUTH (CBS) -- A car became completely engulfed in flames Saturday while traveling on Route 6 in Yarmouth.

Firefighters were called to the scene near exits 7 and 8 around 6:43 p.m., and they found a Nissan Altima on fire.

No one was hurt in, as both the driver and passenger managed to get out of the stopped car while it was smoking and prior to it going up in flames.

A preliminary investigation suggests a mechanical issue with the engine, fire officials say.

Route 6 westbound was shut down for about 45 minutes.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
