Cape Cod Teen Burned By Exploding Propane Torch

SANDWICH (CBS) – A Cape Cod teenager was burned after accidentally kicking a propane torch onto a camp fire.

Sandwich firefighters were called to a Falmouth Sandwich Road house around 11 a.m. on Saturday and found a camp fire that had spread to the home's deck.

Firefighters say an 18-year-old resident tried to kick away some burning debris off the home's deck, not knowing that a propane torch was among the debris.

The torch exploded and burned the teen's face, hands and arms.

An ambulance brought the boy to the nearby Forestdale School. From there he was transported by helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital's burn unit.

Despite his injuries, the teenager was conscious and alert while being transported.

"This incident serves as reminder to be mindful and monitor outdoor fire pits during the upcoming summer season," the Sandwich Fire Department said.
