Driver Crashes SUV Into Bourne Rotary Bushes

BOURNE (CBS) – An SUV crashed near a landmark at the entrance to Cape Cod early Friday morning.

State Police say the driver failed to negotiate the turn at the Bourne Rotary just before 3:30 a.m.

The SUV came off the bridge, went straight into the grass and up the hill inside the rotary.  He narrowly missed the famous "Cape Cod" hedges that greet drivers coming over the bridge.

The vehicle rolled over and ended up on its roof.

The driver, a 74-year-old man from Wareham, was not seriously hurt, but he had to be cut out of the wreckage.

He was taken to Tobey Hospital for treatment.

It's still not known what caused the crash.

The driver, whose name was not made public, will be cited for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended-revoked license and a marked lanes violation.
