Cape Cod Braces For Hermine's Impact

SANDWICH (CBS) -- Cape Cod is already feeling the impact of Hermine.

By Sunday night the surf was building in Sandwich. The choppy waves combined with a steady intensifying wind were signs the storm's impact is moving closer to New England.

Abby Wood, a Sandwich resident, took a walk on the beach with her family.

"Some of these houses down here I heard might get some flooding," Wood said. "We've been here about an hour and now we're chilly."

Earlier in the day it was busy in Bourne and many other seaside towns as people pulled their boats to shore.

Boat owner Jeff Brown says it was nice on Sunday, but he didn't want to push his luck.

"Well there's no way I'd want to be out here after today," Brown said. "The next couple of days you don't want to be anywhere near this place, and if you had a boat on a mooring you would probably try and take it out."

It was nice enough for one final summer swim, but it soon became obvious that things were changing. Even large boats were docking as the wind howled.

"We were just talking about it and it sounds like its just not gonna be as bad as everybody's predicting," one boater said. "We've been down here a good part of the day and the waves definitely have been high."
