Canton Police Charge Brockton Man With Home Break-Ins

CANTON (CBS) – Canton police arrested a Brockton man suspected of a string of break-ins after multiple homeowners returned to find someone inside their house.

Police said that at about 8 p.m. on Friday officers were called to Shore Drive for a report of a person inside a home. A similar incident was reported the previous evening and in both cases the suspect came through a bathroom window and left the area on a bicycle.

"This series of breaks was particularly troubling because the suspects were striking during hours when it was likely people were actually home," Canton police said on their Facebook page, adding that most break-ins occur during the day.

On Friday police learned that a brown or gold colored Nissan registered to a Brockton man may have been involved in the Thursday break-in on Spring Lane.

Following the Friday incident on Shore Drive, that vehicle's description was broadcast over police radio. Soon after, Brockton police located the car allegedly involved.

Canton police arrived in Brockton and located items that were reported stolen from Shore Drive in Canton an hour earlier, along with the bicycle the homeowner allegedly saw the suspect leaving the scene on.

Police arrested Anthony Brown, 53, of Brockton, and charged him with receiving stolen property. He was being held at the Canton Police Department on $20,000 bail.
