Candia, NH Man Charged With Arson After Fire At His Home

CANDIA, N.H. (CBS/AP) — New Hampshire officials say a Candia man is in custody and charged with arson after a fire at his home this week.

Authorities say 59-year-old Stephen Gracyalny was arrested Saturday on a felony arson charge. He is being held at the Rockingham County House of Corrections on a $50,000, cash-only bail.

Officials say the arrest is in connection with a fire at his Hook Road home on Friday.

Fire Marshal William Degnan says arson is not a victimless crime, and that any intentionally set fire jeopardizes the safety of both the public and first responders.

The fire remains under investigation by officials.

Degnan said intentionally set fires annually nationwide cause over 400 deaths and $1.3 billion in property damage.

Gracyalny will be arraigned Monday. It was not immediately known if he has a lawyer.
