Camera Found In Women's Locker Room At Seekonk Fitness Club

SEEKONK (CBS) - Police in Seekonk say they have a suspect in the planting of a hidden camera inside a women's locker room at a fitness club.

A member at Planet Fitness on Taunton Avenue found the camera early Wednesday morning.

Police said the camera had been recording for more than 20 minutes when it was found.

The video was examined by officers and the suspect was captured in the video setting the camera up. He was identified by gym employees as a member of Planet Fitness, police said.

Police are not identifying the suspect at this time, citing the ongoing investigation.

The suspect could face charges under the recently passed up-skirting law, police said.

The discovery of the camera has a number of members on edge.

"It's pretty violating and disgusting to think someone would do that," said Lindsay Carreiro.

"You come to a gym thinking you're in a safe environment. And then you find out people are watching you in the changing room, which is a complete violation of anyone's privacy," Jessica Alves said.

Planet Fitness has released a statement acknowledging the incident.

"At Planet Fitness, the privacy of our members is extremely important to us. We are aware of the alleged incident that took place at the Planet Fitness in Seekonk, MA. The franchise owner is working closely with the local authorities to investigate this matter," the statement said.
