Bursts of Snow Followed By Frigid Air This Weekend

Areas of light snow have developed this morning as some upper level energy slides over southern New England; expect additional bursts of snow to come through this afternoon and early evening. Our atmosphere has a lot of instability today, so similar to summertime thunderstorms, any snow showers that develop today could get a little "feisty" so to speak.

Brief, but locally heavy snow will reduce visibility and drop a coating to as much as an inch or two in some communities as they push through. Temps should be in the mid 30s this afternoon, so main roads won't be impacted much, although some slippery spots will result where the steadiest snow moves through.

Tomorrow will feature another round of flurries and snow showers but they shouldn't amount to anything – just don't want you to be caught off guard if you see flakes flying again. The wind is going to kick up too. Real feel temperatures tomorrow will be in the teens to lower 20s…which is nothing compared to the bitter cold on the way for the weekend.

As the arctic blast comes in, areas of light snow are likely Friday overnight into Saturday morning, but it doesn't look like anything significant.  The bitter cold doesn't stick around for long, but nonetheless, it's going to be a shock to the system! The map below shows projected wind chill values Sunday morning.

Oye! Time to get mentally prepared.
