Bruins Sign Torey Krug To Four-Year Extension
BOSTON (CBS) -- Hours after the Boston Bruins announced that they had bought out defenseman Dennis Seidenberg, the team announced that fellow blueliner Torey Krug has agreed to a four-year contract extension.
Aaron Ward of TSN (and formerly of the Boston Bruins) first reported the deal on Twitter
Bruins general manager Don Sweeney mentioned in his season-ending press conference that the team was prioritizing keeping Krug on the roster. The 25-year-old Krug is one of only four defensemen under contract with the NHL club in 2016-17, joining Zdeno Chara, Kevan Miller, and Adam McQuaid.
With at least two spots still to fill on the back end, Sweeney also stressed the need to acquire a "transitional" defenseman in the offseason. The 5-foot-9 Krug is limited in terms of his defense against bigger NHL forwards, but has great hockey sense and gives the Bruins plenty of puck-moving ability and power play acumen.
Krug has scored 30 goals and 125 points in 241 career NHL games. He's coming off a season in which he scored just four goals but set a career high with 44 points.
