Bruins Reach New Rock Bottom

BOSTON (CBS) - The west coast death march continues for the Boston Bruins.

The B's lost 4-3 in a 12-round shootout late Wednesday night in Edmonton to the Oilers, by far the worst team in the Western Conference and the easiest opponent on this treacherous, season-defining five-game stretch for Boston.

To put in perspective just how bad of a loss it really was: the Oilers broke a 13-game losing streak against the Bruins going all the way back to 2000.

And the guy who scored the shootout winner? Martin Marincin? He's a man who had not scored a goal in over 60 career NHL games, and it's not as if the goal came as a result of skill. Rather, it was luck.

Marincin initially whiffed, and the puck slid through Tuukka Rask's five-hole.

"[Marincin's goal] is like when you accidentally find $20 in the pocket of your jeans," said Andy Gresh Thursday morning, who's filling in for Toucher & Rich this week. "That was Marincin last night."

Tuukka Rask was originally set to get the night off, but the reeling hometown hockey team needed the two points so bad they started him for the 24th time in their last 25 games.

"The Bruins were playing a team who has nothing to play for, and they're out there fighting for their playoff lives. It was ugly, it was disgusting and I was embarrassed to watch," added Jon Wallach.

The Bruins have some options before the March 2 trade deadline, but it's looking like a lost season and it's not even the end of February. This led Gresh and Wallach into a bigger discussion about the state of the Bruins, and who's to blame for this mess.

Afterwards, Gresh and Wallach caught up with CSNNE's Joe Haggerty to try and sort through everything.

Who's to blame? The players? The coach? The GM? Should the Bruins blow it up or try and piece it together?

Listen below for Haggs' take:
