David Krejci Named NHL's Third Star For October

BOSTON (CBS) -- David Krejci had an offensive explosion to start the 2015-16 season, and the Bruins' forward was awarded for his efforts on Monday.

Krejci was named the NHL's Third Star of the Month for October after tallying 15 points during the month on seven goals and eight assists. Those 15 points are good for third in the NHL, while his seven goals are tied for third in the league.

Boston's top-line center had a nine-game point streak throughout the month that lasted until Boston's game on October 31. It was the longest point streak by a Boston player to open a season since both Joe Juneau (7-15=22 totals) and Dmitri Kvartalnov (12-10=22 totals) had points in their first 14 games of the 1992-93 campaign. During his streak, Krejci had four multi-point games, including two three-point evening against Airzona and Tampa Bay. Krejci also scored two goals in Boston's 6-0 win over the Phoenix Coyotes last Tuesday.

Dallas' Jamie Benn and Montreal's Carey Price were named first and second stars of the month, respectively.

Earlier Monday, Bruins forward Brad Marchand was named the NHL's First Star of the Week.
