Bruins Hold Moment Of Silence To Honor Boston Firefighters
BOSTON (CBS) -- Prior to Thursday night's hockey game at the TD Garden, the Bruins held a moment of silence to pay respect to Boston's two lost firefighters.
On Wednesday, two firefighters died while trying to contain the flames in a Back Bay brownstone. Michael Kennedy and Lt. Edward Walsh lost their lives battling the blaze, which started around 2:30 p.m. and strong winds contributed to the difficulty of controlling the fire.
The blaze left 13 other firefighters injured.
The TD Garden turned on red lights and displayed pictures of Kennedy and Walsh on the video board for the moment of silence.
"Ours thoughts go out to the families," Shawn Thornton told WBZ-TV's Dan Roche earlier on Thursday. "It's an unheralded job. Those guys go to work every day fighting fires, not knowing if they're going to come home at night. They don't get enough credit."
The firefighters helped rescue several people who were trapped on the top floors, according to Deputy Chief Joseph Finn.
The Bruins also wore Boston Fire hats during their warmup, and the Boston Fired Department color guard took the ice for the national anthem.

After the game, a 3-0 Boston victory, the Bruins named the Boston Fire Department as the No. 1 star.
