Bruins Expect Patrice Bergeron To Re-Join Team On Wednesday
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Bruins have been uneven through the first two games of the season while playing without Patrice Bergeron, following up a comeback 6-3 win in Columbus with a 4-1 loss in Toronto. But the star center, who has been dealing with a lower-body injury, could be back with the team in time for their first home stand of the season.
Bruins head coach Claude Julien told reporters on Monday that he expects Bergeron to re-join the team for Wednesday's practice in Boston. He did not make the trip with the team for Monday night's tilt in Winnipeg against the Jets, according to Sportsnet's Sean C. Reynolds. He resumed skating over the weekend, according to CSNNE's Joe Haggerty.
If and when Bergeron practices Wednesday, he could be in line to return to the ice for Thursday's home opener against the New Jersey Devils at the TD Garden. Bergeron's presence in the lineup will be most welcome for a Bruins team that has allowed seven goals in its first two games and has been plagued by some glaring defensive miscues. Bergeron's likely linemates, however, have played extremely well in his absence, as Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak have combined for five goals and 11 points.
In other Bruins injury news, Tuukka Rask will be back in net for the Bruins on Monday night in Winnipeg after the goaltender appeared to "tweak something in his leg" against the Blue Jackets.
