Bruins Draft BU Defenseman Charlie McAvoy With No. 14 Pick

BOSTON (CBS) – The Boston Bruins selected Boston University defenseman Charlie McAvoy with the 14th overall pick at the NHL Entry Draft Friday night.

The 18-year-old from Long Beach, N.Y. had three goals and 22 assists in 37 games as a freshman with the Terriers.

McAvoy's defense partner at BU was fellow Bruins prospect Matt Grzelcyk.

Despite being the youngest player in college hockey last season, McAvoy earned Hockey East All-Rookie Team honors.

Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask welcomed McAvoy, saying "Love the pick! BU Terrier, now a Boston Bruin! Congrats and welcome Charlie to the @NHLBruins!"
