Bruins Agree To Five-Year Deal With Free Agent David Backes

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Bruins kicked off NHL free agency with a big move, agreeing to terms with free agent forward David Backes. TSN's Bob McKenzie first reported the news on Twitter as a one-year deal, but the terms were quickly announced as five years and $30 million.

Backes, 32, had played his entire career with the St. Louis Blues. He has 206 goals and 460 points in 727 career NHL games, to go along with 969 penalty minutes.

The Bruins within minutes also announced that they are re-signing defenseman John-Michael Liles to a one-year deal.
