3 Officers Injured When Cruisers Crash During Chase

BROCKTON (CBS) – Three Brockton police officers were taken to an area hospital after two cruisers collided during a chase.

Police say they were trying to arrest a car thief when the cruisers hit each other. The chase began near James Edgar Playground on Dover Street.

One police cruiser followed behind the car and a second tried to stop the Toyota from the opposite direction. The driver swerved and scraped the side of one of the cruisers, forcing the collison.

After the vehicles collided, one of the officers got out and ran down the suspect.

Admilson Pereira, 19, was arrested and charged with failure to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Brockton Police said one officer was taken to a Boston hospital with a serious injury. Two others are being treated for minor injuries at Good Samaritan Medical Center.
