Brock Holt Named All-Star Reserve; Bogaerts On Final Vote Ballot

BOSTON (CBS) -- Brock Holt will represent the Boston Red Sox at the 2015 MLB All Star game next week in Cincinnati.

Reserves for the American and National League teams were announced Monday night by Major League Baseball.

The 27-year-old left-handed hitter is batting .295 with two home runs and 21 RBI in 66 games. He hit for the cycle against the Atlanta Braves on June 16.

Holt has made starts at every position other than pitcher and catcher this season. He is the first player ever to be named an All-Star after appearing at all seven of those positions prior to the All-Star break.

Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts still has a shot to make the American League's 34-man roster via the MLB All-Star Game Final Vote.

The 2015 MLB All-Star game will be played next Tuesday at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. The American League has won two straight midsummer classics after the National League took the previous three.
