Breer: Patriots Have Never Bent On Their Financial Philosophy

BOSTON (CBS) - Albert Breer of the NFL Network doesn't see Darrelle Revis coming to the Patriots because A.) He is and has always been about the money, and B.) The Patriots are also about the money.

"The financial question is going to be the big one for Revis. Here's what would need to happen: I think either the Patriots need to break fourteen years of behavior, or Revis has to break seven years of behavior - or both," said Breer Wednesday morning on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich program.

Channeling Patriots fans' inner Lloyd Christmas: . . . so you're telling me there's a chance?

"In his seven year career Revis has never left a dime on the table. This guy is a real businessman, and he would have to kind of come off of that a little bit. The Patriots have always been cutthroat in putting value on players, so they'd have to give a little there. We just don't have the evidence of that ever having happened before."

However, Breer did leave open the possibility.

"Are they going to be willing to go outside of what they do from a financial standpoint? In certain ways, they would be blowing up their financial structure. That said, the guy is worth it. Revis is the best defensive back in football since Deion Sanders. If there's anybody to do it for, it's this guy. Somebody like Belichick would recognize that, and I do know internally they've talked about it."
