Breer On Toucher & Rich: Ton Of Pressure On Patriots Coaches To Maximize Defense

BOSTON (CBS) - The Patriots defense has the potential to be a top five unit, and the NFL Network's Albert Breer believes there's a ton of pressure on the coaching staff to maximize all that talent.

The big story in training camp so far is the physicality on display by the Patriots defense, with cornerback Brandon Browner and Darrelle Revis being a main reason why.

But cornerback isn't the only area of the defense that's been throwing its weight around.

Breer told 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich show that the defense is "big, fast and physical all over the place." Breer went so far as to say that if the Patriots brought back Aqib Talib then they could probably be a top five defense, but with Darrelle Revis he believes they will be a top five defense.

Breer added the pressure lies with the coaching staff to maximize all the talent on defense.

"There's no more excuses for the defense. They've been bottom eight in the league the last four years running. There's talent there. There's legitimate pressure on Bill Belichick and Matt Patricia to deliver on that side of the ball," said Breer. "[A top five] defense is kind of the benchmark now. They have all those first round picks and have fifteen guys who were top 100 picks on the roster on that side of the ball. To me, I think there's a ton of pressure on the coaches to get this thing right."
