Braintree Woman Returns Waitress' Long-Lost 'Pennies From Heaven'

BRAINTREE (CBS) – Hurricane Sandy damaged Loreen Kubek's roof in 2012 but in the process it uncovered some buried treasure.

While repairing the roof, Kubek found some savings bonds tucked away in an attic crawl space.

The bonds were made out to a Christine Joy Breadmore.

For almost two years Kubek tried to find Breadmore but she had no luck. Then, on Saturday, the Patriot Ledger ran a story about Kubek's search for the bond's owner.

That afternoon, something special happened.

"Lo and behold, 5:00 I hear a car driving in my driveway," Kubek told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Carl Stevens.

It was Breadmore, a waitress from the South Shore.

"She knocked on the door and there was this young woman, with paper in hand, license in hand, and her dad's Social. And I said, 'Hello, I've been waiting for you."

Breadmore's father had bought the bonds and put them in the attic when his family was renting the house where Kubek now lives.

"She said, 'Well, my dad died of cancer in 2006' and she got a little misty eyed, so I said, 'Well, these are pennies from heaven."

Breadmore left with the savings bonds from her dad, worth more than $600.
