Consider this:

When I was a kid my parents had help bringing me up because neighbors were not afraid to let me know when I stepped out of line. That's the way it was back in the day. The community was quick to speak up when kids behaved badly.

Now, non-parents hesitate to correct bad behavior for fear of getting an ear-full and a cold shoulder. Contemporary dads and moms are increasingly solely responsible for instilling values and monitoring behavior. As a result, it's imperative that parents pass on values and principles that will guide their kids when they are not around.

So I ask you, in this era of "not my child, not my problem" what's the most important piece of guidance a parent can give their kid?

I headed out with a video camera and the WBZ microphone in hand to document what modern parents feel is the most important thing they can teach their children to gird them for hurly burly of life today.
