Boy Playing Marathon Round Of Golf Surpasses Fundraising Goal

NORTON (CBS) – A young boy playing 100 holes of golf in honor of his friend who died after a battle with cancer blew past his initial fundraising goal.

Ryan McGuire of Foxboro teed up at Norton's MGA Links on Wednesday to play a marathon round of golf in honor of Danny Nickerson.

Nickerson died in April from a rare form of cancer. Before his death, Nickerson asked for birthday cards and received truckloads of them from around the world.

McGuire initially planned to raise $5,000 for pediatric cancer research in Nickerson's memory.

Instead, he had raised more than $29,000 by late Wednesday afternoon.
