Boston's Animal Control Director On Leave After Poor Shelter Conditions Discovered

BOSTON (CBS) – Boston's Animal Control Director has been suspended after official discovered the Roslindale shelter in deplorable conditions.

Animal Rescue League officials went to the shelter on Friday to arrange adoption of an animal and discovered poor conditions including expired food and medication.

Dozens of animals have been moved to other shelters.

League President Mary Nee said the shelter was understaffed and did not have enough money for its operations.

"Really, a shelter in crisis…..not properly trained to handle the animals they have," Nee told WBZ Radio 1030.

Boston Animal Control director is facing termination pending an ARL report on the shelter due next week.
