Tropical downpours from Hurricane Nicole remnants coming late Friday into Saturday

Next Weather: WBZ midday forecast for November 11

By Terry Eliasen, WBZ-TV Meteorologist, Executive Weather Producer

BOSTON - The WBZ Weather Team continues the Next Weather Alert for the remnants of Hurricane Nicole which will pass through New England in the next 24 hours.

Rain showers will arrive from west to east late Friday afternoon and evening and continue off and on throughout the night.

The heaviest downpours will likely come in the early hours of Saturday morning, between 4 and 10 a.m., perhaps with a few rumbles of thunder as well.

After 10 a.m., the rain will make a quick exit and the sunshine will emerge, making for a very nice second half of the day!

In fact, high temperatures on Saturday will be near or slightly over 70 degrees in many areas, albeit with some gusty winds.

Speaking of the wind, that' s our main concern for this storm.

The strongest winds will be over the Cape and Islands as well as the South Coastal areas. Expect gusts to reach 40-to-50 mph in these locations.

Elsewhere along the coast, we are forecasting south-southwesterly gusts between 35 and 50 mph. Farther inland expect 20-to-35 mph.

This may be just enough wind to take down some branches and cause some minor tree damage. It certainly will remove most of the rest of the leaves from the trees.

If you are planning on raking up the rest of the leaves:

Saturday afternoon won't be ideal as the leaves will still be wet and the winds will be gusty.

Sunday will be OK, but there will be some scattered light showers around and a bit of a leftover breeze.

Monday will be dry, but still a bit gusty.

Tuesday looks like the best day of the next several.

CBS Boston

We can say bye bye to the unusually warm start to November. Things are set to take a turn on Sunday and through next week. We expect below average temperatures for a while with highs mainly in the 40s.

In fact, much of the country will feel the chill over the next week or so.

SNOW?

And, the next BIG weather story could come as early as the middle of next week. Watching a storm system that could bring some wet snow to parts of New England!

It's way too early for details but, as with any early season storm, snow would be favored in areas farther north and west and with some elevation.

As always, we urge that you stay tuned to WBZ-TV, CBSBoston.com and CBS News Boston for updates leading up to and throughout the storm.
