Boston Teacher Charged With Assaulting Child In Hospital

BOSTON (CBS) – A Boston Public School teacher is accused of inappropriately touching an eight year old child at the Boston University Medical Center.

Juan Cortes faces one count of indecent assault and battery on a child.

Cortes is a teacher at the Mission Hill School. He has been placed administrative leave.

BPS Interim Superintendent John McDonough says Cortes passed a background check upon hire and again at regular intervals throughout his employment.

Cortes, of Jamaica Plain, was arraigned on Monday and held on $500 cash bail. If he posts that bail, Cortes will be ordered to abide by a curfew, wear a GPS monitor, and stay away from all children under 16, including the victim.
