Boston Police Officer Stops To Throw Batting Practice With Child

SOUTH BOSTON (CBS) -- Boston Police posted a photo to their Facebook page Tuesday of an officer who stopped to make a child's day last weekend.

Police said the officer spotted a young boy standing alone with a bat and ball while on patrol at a South Boston housing development last Saturday. When the officer offered to throw a few balls for some batting practice, police said "the boy's face lit up."

"This is the kind of hands on community service our officers are doing on a daily basis in neighborhoods throughout Boston," the department wrote in the post. "We applaud the officer for taking time out of his tour of duty to make this boy's day and we thank the person who captured this picture and brought it to our attention."
