Officer Injured In East Boston Shootout Released From Hospital

BOSTON (CBS) – One of the Boston Police officers injured last week in a shootout at an East Boston home has been released from the hospital.

Officer Richard Cintolo was discharged from Massachusetts General Hospital on Wednesday, one week after he was shot on Gladstone Street in East Boston.

"I'm very happy," said Police Commissioner William Evans. "Last Wednesday night I would have never thought he'd be home with the shape he was in and you know the whole city pulled together and everyone prayed for Richie and we're happy he's home. He'll still have a long road ahead of him."

Cintolo and fellow Officer Matt Morris both underwent multiple surgeries after being shot by Kirk Figueroa, who was killed during the incident.

"We still have to pray for Matt. Matt's still in the hospital, he could be there another couple of days and he'll be a long rehab so, they're lucky guys, and we're lucky to still have them," Evans said.

Morris remains hospitalized, but has been upgraded to stable condition.
