2 Boston Police Officers Dragged By SUV In Mattapan

BOSTON (CBS) -- Two Boston police officers suffered minor injuries when they were dragged 100 yards by an SUV Sunday evening, according to police.

The officers pulled over a black SUV around 7 p.m. for going about 70 miles per hour on Blue Hill Avenue on Mattapan. They stopped the vehicle with a driver and passenger at Stratton Street.

Police say the driver appeared to try and get out of the car and that's when officers reached in both sides of the vehicle to stop him,

"The driver put the car in gear. The officers tried to stop him, He took off with the two officers hanging out from the car," said Boston Police Deputy Superintendent Dennis White.

While they were dragged, one officer hit his foot on a parked car. The other has back and shoulder injuries.

The ride only stopped when the vehicle hit another parked SUV. The impact was great enough that the parked vehicle was pushed over the sidewalk and into a tree.

The two officers and suspect were taken to the hospital.

Police said the passenger was not expected to face charges. The driver will face charges including assault.
